Rarity and Value: Despite saying series of 1882, these were actually printed between 1908 and 1921. So they aren’t quite as old as you might think. However, that doesn’t mean that they can’t be valuable. Your typical range is probably $300 to $1,200. Notes that are rare or especially high grade could certainly be worth more money. Please contact us for details. Don’t forget to check the serial number. Number 1 notes always sell for nice premiums.
Current Market Analysis: In the early part of the 21st century notes from California were especially hot. The reality is that most collectors who follow the state have been collecting for decades. So you have to have something really special to achieve the prices we were seeing ten years ago, because most collectors have very few holes in their collections left to fill. There were lots of blue seal banks in California that seem rare, but they don’t always bring values commiserate with their perceived rarity. The location of the bank also matters. Traditionally notes from the bay area and San Diego have been especially popular. It should go without saying that national gold bank notes from California have a special place in most currency collections.
