Rarity and Value: There are two types of 1882 blue seal national bank notes. The back either says five dollars or it says 1882 – 1908. The value of these notes is really just based on the condition and bank of issue. Some can be worth as little as a few hundred dollars. The rarest notes usually top out at a couple thousand dollars. Please contact us for details. Don’t forget to check the serial number. Number 1 notes always sell for nice premiums.
Current Market Analysis: If you like a diverse offering of bank notes, then you should consider collecting Maine. The market for Maine has never been especially hot or especially cold. Maine is an old established state. It had lots of first charter banks that were in business for a very long time and that makes it relatively easy to find brown backs and red seals. It is possible to buy great notes in high grades for very reasonable prices. We are not sure if it is the cold weather, but notes tend to be found in pretty decent condition with great signatures. And it’s not just about type notes. There are some tough towns in Maine as well. You can challenge yourself if you try to get a note from every town.
