Rarity and Value: If you have one of these then please be sure to check the back of it. If the back says “Fifty Dollars” in large type then you have a very rare find. If the back says “1882-1908” then you have the more common variety. The good news that even the common variety is still relatively scarce and should be worth at least a couple thousand dollars, or more. Please contact us for details. Don’t forget to check the serial number. Number 1 notes always sell for nice premiums.
Current Market Analysis: There are a lot of things to think about when you are trying to value a note from Colorado. Is the note from a ski resort area, does the town have a rich frontier or mining history, is it from a wealthy Denver suburb, or was issued while Colorado was still a territory? There was a time when a few very rich collectors were paying absurd amounts of money for notes from Colorado. Today prices are much more predictable. Brown backs and first charters always sell well. Notes that are unique for the town are still worth very large sums of money. Just remember that past results are no guarantee of future success. Sadly, you can’t bring back the boom days, but good notes are still in demand.
