Rarity and Value: If you have one of these then please be sure to check the back of it. If the back says “Fifty Dollars” in large type then you have a very rare find. If the back says “1882-1908” then you have the more common variety. The good news that even the common variety is still relatively scarce and should be worth at least a couple thousand dollars, or more. Please contact us for details. Don’t forget to check the serial number. Number 1 notes always sell for nice premiums.
Current Market Analysis: There are dozens, if not hundreds of truly rare and amazing notes from Kansas that should be worth two or three times more than what they sell for in today’s market. The problem is that Kansas had lots of national banks and it just doesn’t have a very strong collector base today. For example, a three known blue seal from Florida might sell for $10,000. A note with the exact same rarity from a Kansas bank might not even sell for $1,500. It is just one of those simple supply and demand things. The quantity of great material far outweighs the number of people looking to buy it. Let’s hope that prices will increase in the future as buyers start to make bargain purchases and accidently turn into long-term collectors.
