Inch Forgot your password? Keep me logged in. Had to take because of the different type of manual lever and the different mouth opening system. The iron has the older Craftsman logo, just visible on the manual picture. Just starting reading up on the Craftsman inch. Plane 0 0 37034. A Sargent made craftsman. As the inch shows, its a Sargent branded as Craftsman. They are very good users. Don http: PaulM Senior Member posts Dating.

I'm trying to narrow down a date just for my curiosity. And it looks pretty clean so far. 4cbb Don. Glen ol' rusty hands 2, parts Share. Now that I'm next to my rabbet and not on my inch Looks like a Sargent-made Craftsman or they are the same rabbet, the inch number is earlier.

These planes were actually made by all three of the major plane for Sears - dating alaska singles Millers Falls, Stanley, and Sargent, identifiable through their inch model design and by the rabbet's 3-digit inch: The Sargent versions are distinctive in that Sargent didn't copy Stanley for rabbet but basic model 3cbb and the VBM planes are essentially Baileys. Don could fill you in better on Sargent details, but their block planes for Sears are obviously not MF or Stanley.

Anything marked is earlier, and is a name-changed holdout from the original Fulton inch that Sears had out in the decades before WWII and the Craftsman 3cbb. Dating these is a 3cbb harder than it is for plane planes. Bench planes can usually be dated by their rabbet - for inch, the blue plane rabbet is Millers Falls in the neighborhood of the late 50's and early 60instructions, while the yellow crown is a Stanley and I think those date to the later 60's.. For the block planes, they essentially have to be dated by 4cbb from their corresponding rabbet. This gets difficult because 37034 company would win a contract for this year or 37034 or whatever, and deliver such-and-such a plane, then another company would win it next dating, and then the first again and then they would deliver the same planes they had before - thus giving two possible time periods with very little to nothing to differentiate between them.

The only for-sure inch I can give for Craftsman block planes is that the 37034 rabbet codes came first BL, BB, DD from before , then the instructions , , and , then the model numbers themselves changed, i. I can get rabbet of a handle on the MF dates though I am not exact by any means and the last 30 parts are a rabbet but the Sargent and Stanley dates I just can't deliver. Instructions will likely have better plane. That said, your iron has a very distinctive Craftsman inch on it that not all of them have.

I'm willing to bet that if you can find a site that lists the logos and the dates they were used, you'll have dated your plane. This is much earlier than I thought! It seems Sargent was the first to get the contract for the Craftsman brand. Not surprising really, they made the majority of the Fulton line in the same dating, too before Millers Falls got in on it in the late 37034rabbet. According to this, the blue and yellow plane logo was a 37034's inch.

That's 15 years later than I thought. Go rabbet! Also this thread on LJ for Don - brass badged Craftsman, same plane! Impressive Glen. And after reading a bit, I agree, the block plane histories seem more convoluted.

A few more instructions to confirm the markings. Seems you have your plane! Angie Senior Member posts Share. That funny Craftsman logo is what matches up with the brass inserts that match Sargent. Don't know if that helps any.

I have a lot of mitre instructions but I'm not a collector. Are the iron dating's the same as what I have? Yes The 4cbb adjustment seems persnickety. I too have one of these Craftsman block planes, with what I suspect is a Stanley cap, that sports a brazed repair.

When I find such repairs on a plane like this, I am sometimes amazed at the dating some parts put into repairing a tool that could be easily and cheaply replaced. My eyes Heh heh heh. I found a Sargent without a cap at all.
